Cambridge Kung Fu Class Timetable
All Cambridge classes (adult) are held at St. Matthews Primary School, Norfolk Street, Cambridge CB1 2LD. Google Map for St Matthews School See the Calendar of Activities for the year. Monday nights: Wing Chun for Self DefenceNo classes on bank holidays.
Each class is divided up into three parts:
The aim of this class is to teach a complete self defence system that allows anyone regardless of size or strength to defend themselves effectively against the modern threat you may face on the street today. We believe that the answer to this has to lie in an internal system rather than an external one. An internal system means that you will learn how to control and coordinate your body in such a way that your body becomes a linked system that can accumulate power through the understanding of wave mechanics applied to the human body and mind. You will become adept at understanding all aspects of modern combat including, range, timing, balance and movement. You will learn how to move softly in the face of superior strength, and to move with power into an opponents weak areas. Tuesday nights: Escrima Concepts
The aim of this class is to teach the art of Escrima as taught by Master Steve Tappin through his Escrima Concepts system. This is a weapons based system where you will learn to use weapons from the first lesson. As the name suggests this is a conceptual based system which means it is the idea that ultimately matters not the technique, which is true of everything we teach at Cambridge Kung Fu. Master Steve is an internationally renowned master of martial arts who specialises in the use of weapons for self protection. He teaches all round the world to top martial artists and special police and military units. We are very lucky that our instructors are trained by Master Steve and his son Wayne personally. Master Steve is a great martial artist but also a great teacher and a great person, he visits Cambridge Kung Fu twice a year to give seminars open to all Cambridge Kung Fu students and to grade the students who practice Escrima Concepts in Cambridge. Wednesday nights: Wing Chun Kung Fu (Yong Chun, Wing Tsun)
The aim of this class is to teach the conceptual martial art of Wing Chun. At the basic level the goal is to support you in your development as a martial artist. Understanding how your body works now, and how to make it work more effectively through coordination exercises and drills. We teach you a system to develop your body to become more aware both visually and kinaesthetically. There is a self defence element to the class as Wing Chun is a combat system but this is not the primary focus of the class, as it is on a Monday night. Wing Chun is concerned with health as much as combat and this balanced view is conveyed in this class. In this class we concentrate on Chi-Sau, Lat-Sau and Forms practise.
The aim of these classes is to continue your development through the Wing Chun system, allowing you to grow as a martial artist and as a person. We will support you in your goals and teach you the beautiful system of Wing Chun, showing you how it can apply to all aspects of your life, which will help you to become a more confident, happier, healthier and safer person. This is the ultimate aim of Wing Chun. Thursday nights: Tai Chi and Chi Kung
The aim of this class is to teach the arts of 'Endless River' Tai Chi and 'Wild Goose' Chi Kung, as taught by Grandmaster Brian Jones. Tai Chi is the oldest recorded martial art. Endless River Tai Chi is a system that is practiced in a slow, relaxed manner, to facilitate a deeper understanding of both internal and external body movements. Exercises are done solo and with a partner so that you learn about, and how to affect other people's body and movements as well as your own. Wild Goose Chi Kung incorporates the bending, stretching, twisting and fluttering movements of wild geese into a health-enhancing routine, which strengthens and moves Chi throughout the body. The movements will massage acupuncture points, stretch, relax, invigorate, refresh, strengthen and generally improve the health of your body. Saturday afternoons: Instructor Training and small group training.12pm - 1.30pm: Instructor training
The aim of this class is to teach instructors, assistant instructors and all members of Cambridge Kung Fu who might want to be an instructor in the future. You will be taught systematically how to teach in terms of a structured syllabus, how to prepare a lesson and how to stand in front of a group of people and teach them martial arts.
The aim of this class is to teach the members of Cambridge Kung Fu who really love martial arts and want to experience training in a small group. The classes are quite intense physically and mentally but great for all the people who are really passionate about Wing Chun!
Weekday Small Group training: Following the same theme as the Saturday classes, but split over Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 11-12pm. Please contact us for more details col@cambridgekungfu.com |
