What is a 'Ceremony'?

The ceremony is an extra special class that is held for each age group at the end of every term. We invite family and friends to attend which gives the kids a chance to show off what they've achieved that term. It involves playing some games, demonstrating the form, receiving their badge and certificate then usually finishing with a demonstration from either our Youth or Adult programme.

What is 'Grading'?

Each term the Little Dragons and Junior Warriors will learn a Form (a sequence of moves) based on a different martial art, they will also learn about that martial art i.e. where it originates from, who developed it etc. At the end of the term they will be assessed (Graded) on their ability to remember the moves of the form, the names of the moves and their knowledge of the martial art. We do not grade Mini Monkeys or Tiny Tigers. In Youth Kung Fu your child will study Wing Chun Kung Fu and will work their way through the syllabus grading at different levels as they progress. For more information please see the 'Syllabus' sections on the Mini Monkeys, Tiny Tigers, Little Dragons, Junior Warriors and Youth Kung Fu pages.

Will my child get hit or 'spar' with other children?

All our Kids Classes are non-contact. Once your child reaches Junior Warriors age they may begin some light contact work in the form of Kung Fu drills, however these do not involve punching or kicking one another. In Youth Kung Fu your child will study Wing Chun Kung Fu, this involves contact but is introduced to those who have the maturity to control their bodies appropriately.

What should my child wear to classes?

If your child is attending trial lessons then they should wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes such as jogging bottoms and a t-shirt. Our Kids Classes are bare-foot, those in Youth Kung Fu should wear trainers. If your child decides they want to continue coming to classes then they should wear their Kung Fu uniform which is paid for by the Joining Fee.
